Hello! My name is Chris Lang and I am the 8th Grade Reading Teacher. I am so excited to be at Rensselaer Central Middle School and start a new AMAZING year!
My classroom philosophy is very simple and straightforward. I have but one rule--RESPECT! I demand the students respect themselves and others at all times. I like to call it a “safe” place where each student is encouraged to be true to who they are and feel free to share that with others while still respecting everyone in the classroom. I am a very positive person and like to create that same positive atmosphere in my classroom through my lesson plans, my behavior, and my encouragement of others to do the same.
One of my favorite quotes is “Everyone is a reader… Some just haven't found their favorite book yet.” It is my goal to find a “favorite” book for all of my students--even those who do not currently have one! I am a firm believer that reading is of utmost importance not only for students but adults alike! Reading is an invitation for travel, personal growth, and exploration within the mind! I want to share my enthusiasm for reading with everyone!
We will be reading short stories, poems, articles, novels (both fiction and nonfiction), essays, and just about anything else I can get my hands on! Each student will be required to read and complete the assigned activity for an Accelerated Reading book during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th nine weeks. There will be times when we have time for reading in class, but the majority of the book will need to be read on their own. I will require one nonfiction and two fiction books for the year. Because of this requirement, I rarely assign homework other than reading their AR book.
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or would simply like to chat about your student, please feel free to contact me! I look forward to a great year and getting to know your student!
Thank you for trusting me with your greatest treasure--your child!
